Jobs

North Face: I have an amazing job where I get talk about my adventures all day. Then I have the privilege of helping to equip people for their own adventures to come. North Face is the best, and I love it!

Backpackers: I work with this ministry where we go to hostels and cook for them on Monday nights. We also play live music there, and just hang out with our hostel. Now I am doing the admin for this team. I am making the budget, rosters, and speaking with the hostels. I love that I am doing behind the scenes work, because it pushes me. I always want to talk and be out in the open so its a bit of a challenge to settle behind the scenes.

Hosting: I’ve been asked to consider running Venue Safety for the 7:00 service at Hillsong. This means that I ensure that all the teams are running smoothly. That camera crews, worship, hosting, greeting, new Christians are all in sync. Which is just a huge responsibility and beneficial to my development in learning what it takes to run a church.

Fieldwork @ Church: Now I am facilitating Connect group leadership training. I ensure that everything is ready and being taught for every service. This means that Sunday I am definitely at the church doing this from 8:00 am - 9:30 pm. But this is a huge thing for me. I love helping Jason & Nadine out.

College Opener: I was asked input on the theology side of our opener video. What verses would work for the image that they are portraying for example. But of course being typical me I also have them an idea for the video. And I think they really liked it.

So needless to say its apparent I am receiving more and more responsibilities here, and I love it. I love that people feel they can rely on my mind or actions. This place is truly feeling more and more like home.

// the body and blood //

Christ.

It’s not his “last name”. It’s his life.

And I find myself frustrated with some assumptions we make. The assumptions that will eventually kill us by numbing our hearts. We partake in communion around this time, and it forces me to ask myself a question. What is the body and blood of Christ? My church honestly runs through the “process” of communion in excellence. They begin and end in a timely manor and even manage to define the story and why we do communion. But I guess I found myself crying in offense yesterday. Maybe I am too passionate on this subject. Or perhaps I am not passionate enough.

See the bread is not just the body. Its what that body did. Jesus Christ isn’t just a name it’s the definition of life. And we dare refer to the body as simply flesh? NO! the body aged for us. The body rotted on earth for us. The body stepped down from perfection and landed on Earth for us. That same flesh had to fight against disease and sin. That same flesh burned when it was ripped apart. That same flesh had to build up muscles to WALK to spread the Gospel. And that very same tangible flesh ascended to Heaven. But go ahead and chew on your piece of bread that represents something we all take for granted.

And the blood! How do you sit there and not weep knowing that your drinking the sin of the world. When that very same blood was pure until he sacrificed it all for you. He did that so that you could know his father, and you gulp it down while stating if it was good grape juice or not. How dare you and I sit there with a cup and not realize the magnitude of his blood. The lineage in that same blood. David suffered and loved the Lord so that Jesus Christ could one day be. Mary who had such a strong faith is in that blood. All of his lineage paved the way for him to be on this Earth. And only by the Grace of God did he come. Yet we sip on something and simply thank him for dieing! NO! I cant stand sitting here thinking that! When you partake in this you are saying, in remembrance, thank you. But are your thoughts thinking that? Or better yet are your actions?

I suggest we all study these two things. The body of Christ is not just his flesh alone, but what that flesh did on a DAILY basis. And the blood isn’t just a moment in time where Christ died for your sin. But that the blood is a lineage of salvation to come.

// Easter //

Easter (important)

There are heaps of Christians that believe this holy day is a day where we celebrate and convict others.  They say things like “die to yourself everyday and carry the cross”. And I agree with that statement. But the point of Easter isn’t about saving people or scaring them into believing in Christ.

Luke 9:23

Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.

Now nothing is wrong with the earlier statement. It’s convicting and true. I mean you see it right there in Luke. But as you know most of the time when we look at verses there are multiple interpretations. And God has another perception for that verse. Let’s break it down.

“whoever wants to be my disciple”

- This isn’t for everyone. Some people are new to Jesus, and maybe a little nervous about this relationship. They are struggling to be ok with hearing him let alone being a disciple. This is where we are patient and continue to sow into them rather than jumping down their throat. Love them rather than convict them.

“deny themselves”

- How can someone deny themselves if they don’t know who they are yet? This is journey and a very personal journey at that. So when telling someone this verse be mindful that it’s something very personal, and gentle. It is not something we can throw in someone’s face to convict them.

“take up their cross”

- This is where I see a difference in what most of us think. This statement doesn’t mean carry all of the burden of sin and beat yourself up over how imperfect you are. Everyone is missing a key word! UP! Take UP their cross! This means after you have met Jesus Christ and decided to not only believe in him but live life with him you can then learn who you are so that you may deny yourself. Then you are in a position to lift his beautiful sacrifice with honor and love. That not only do you understand the weight of the cross, but you enjoy that weight and lift it up because there is nothing better in this life. There is nothing more beautiful and spectacular than the Gospel. Dont carry the cross. Die to yourself so that you can lift the cross higher. So that others see him rather than you. It’s not a burden to carry that cross. It’s not a tool to convict our fellow Christians or others. This is something that we are to lift and celebrate. Key word is to lift. Not only carry that cross but exalt its meaning on high! Be proud and share that love with the world!

“follow me”

- Most see this as a command. When I see it as an invitation. How lucky are we? We sit around with our bibles and pick out guidelines and rules. Then we shove those things down the throats of others. We are all missing the point. He doesn’t tell us what to do. He invites us to follow him. He invites us to live a life that is more than a daily struggle to just have another day. He gives us a life that is full of promise and hope.

Why do we continue to attack others and force our beliefs upon them? Why do we think Easter is about how we are to save people? If I remember correctly HE died on the cross to save us. I wasn’t there. I can’t save anyone. Only he can provide that gift for others. I am called to just worship him. And the more I know him the more I want to be like him. It’s never been out of conviction. Its never been something I feel obligated to do. I genuinely want to be like him. He loved so well when I’ve loved so horribly. He was a great friend. And I suck most of the time. So this Easter I urge you to really study and know what it’s about. Because it should be like any other day. You and I should lift up the cross and show the world what it really stands for… LOVE.

1 Corinthians 1:18

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Jesus did not mainly come to stop abortions in this world. He came mainly to die for abortion-committing sinners. “I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance” (Luke 5:32).

// Ep 2:3//

All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature deserving of wrath.

We were/are all children of wrath. This is our nature, but through Christ and through Christ along we can be children of Glory. We can’t change our nature, but by the grace of God he can.

Children of wrath can become children of God. And that is only through Jesus Christ. This is why he came, died, resurrected, and still reigns today.

// A lesson in Grammer //

Verb: any member of a class of words that are formally distinguished in many languages, as in English by taking the past ending in -ed,  that function as the main elements of predicates, that typically express action, state, or a relation between two things, and that (when inflected) may be inflected for tense, aspect, voice, mood, and to show agreement with their subject or object.

Which are you? Active or Passive

How to recognize an active or passive verb?

  1. Find the subject (the main character of the sentence).
  2. Find the main verb (the action that the sentence identifies).
  3. Examine the relationship between the subject and main verb.
    • Does the subject perform the action of the main verb? (If so, the sentence is active.)
    • Does the subject sit there while something else — named or unnamed –performs an action on it? (If so, the sentence is passive.)
    • Can’t tell? If the main verb is a linking verb (“is,” “was,” “are,” “seems (to be),” “becomes” etc.), then the verb functions like an equals sign; there is no action involved — it merely describes a state of being

Now that we understand this I have a few questions…

Typically when the sentence is active we have a subject that is more clear or maybe even forceful. The subject is actually performing the action. When in the passive the subject is more being used rather than using.

So are you the type of person that wants to “do” or “use” in the situation or are you more willing to be “done” or “used”. All I can leave you with is this ;

1 John 4:19.

and

a question

are you willing to be passive? Or are you too hung up on being active?

// Today //

We did communion at one of the services I served, and I must say that I began to weep. I couldnt control myself at all. Jesus Christ literally shared his flesh for us, and bled so that we can know his father. That right there is a best friend. And he will forever have my back. I love him so much. And communion isn’t something that represents him dieing on the cross. It is his flesh and it is his blood. You sitting in your church praising the Lord is his flesh and blood. You praying to your father is his flesh and blood. Your hope for a heaven is his flesh and blood. So when you take communion it cannot be referred to as a representation. You are literally taking part of something that is very real and present today. My best friend died on the cross so you and I could spend the rest of our lives getting to know our father. And learning how to live in a higher state. Learning how to love properly. Yeah… Im bragging. Because he is my best friend. And I couldn’t imagine taking communion and lighter than that.

so good

// Proverbs 8 //

Proverbs 8:35-36

For those who find me find life
   and receive favor from the LORD.
36 But those who fail to find me harm themselves;
   all who hate me love death.”

I placed this verse first because I want you all to know that not only do I find this subject a very serious one, but so does the Lord. We are talking about wisdom. Something that I often times find myself wanting “RIGHT NOW” when it is a constant education. So let’s start off with proverbs 8:11.

Proverbs 8:10-11

Choose my instruction instead of silver,
   knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies,
   and nothing you desire can compare with her.

When we are in this world we constantly look to material items to take us to the next “goal” in life. In particular money. I have been offered two jobs now, but I would be paid under the table. Which means I would be working illegally. It’s been hard. I want a job, and I want to make my own money! But it’s not wise nor right to take either one of those jobs. This scripture reinforced that in my heart. And the scripture even strengthened me. Because this passage right here says that wisdom “costs” more or has more value than any of our form currency. But there is even more that is promised to me.

Proverbs 8:1-21

My fruit is better than fine gold;
   what I yield surpasses choice silver.
20 I walk in the way of righteousness,
   along the paths of justice,
21 bestowing a rich inheritance on those who love me
   and making their treasuries full.

I am promised an inheritance, favor, from God. Just for looking to wise choices over material or earthly ones. So not only am I promised something that is worth more than what I see here in material things I am promised an abundance or gift of this value.

And finally we have the easiest part. Proverbs 8:17

I love those who love me,
   and those who seek me find me.

All we have to do is look to the Lord and wisdom. The resources we so often look for already reside within us. Just let God provide that favor. Let him turn his eyes upon you and love you. Love him back. Favor is not just found in the high times. Favor could literally be someone opening a door for you the day you have a ton of groceries while its raining. I dont know what favor looks like for you personally. But just because you and I might be going through a rough patch it doesnt mean that we cant have his favor during this time. You have to know the word and his promise. He promises you that you have favor. You are his bride and he loves you. Look to wisdom. Look to him for that wisdom, and he will share heaven’s favor. And if you dont look to wisdom he has a promise for that as well. Just look again at the first two verses I placed in this entry. This is serious. And I can say that I am going to always try to be part of Proverbs 8:35, and stay clear from Proverbs 8:36.

// Apology //

I find little time to contact my family let alone get on this thing. I feel consumed by studying, personal readings, serving, school, and then my own personal time. Let me explain what I do here.

Monday-friday I am pretty much at the school until 5:00. I do get breaks, but they leave me with only 30 min intervals and its hard to run back to the house to consume food or time to write on here. Then I serve at the church all day on either Sunday or Saturday. And whatever day I dont serve I attend church. Needless to say I eat, sleep, and breathe church. Which is giving me an idea of what its like working in the ministry full time. Today is the first time I have felt like I have a routine which is nice and refreshing, because everything thus far has been last min. So I am so sorry that I have been so busy. But tomorrow I finally have a day off. Though I have a crazy To Do list I will be sure to tell you what I have been learning.
